Double Glaze existing single pane windows
The green way to upgrade your windows
This procedure is as effective as replacing frames with new uPVC frames. The glass units we use are the same as what would be used in new uPVC frames.
To re-glaze existing teak/aluminium frames, there are a number of things one would need to consider:
- Are you happy with the frames in place, or would you like new plastic look-alikes?
- If your existing windows are drafty, we provide a draft proofing service
- Are the frames in good condition? If not, uPVC may be the way to go – or replace with new teak frames
- The overall cost of replacement – redecorating due to plastering when installing new windows, along with disturbance to the building and existing deco
Taking all this into consideration, re-glazing existing frames is very successful with little disturbance to the build. The frames are untouched and the single glaze pane is removed and disposed of by us. Then the frames are rebated in order to fit the new unit – typically a 20mm standard unit. The unit is then sealed and secured using appropriate slips (for teak frames) or beading (aluminium frames)
Also, if required, we can sand your frames and ensure that all openings are draft-proofed. This increases energy efficiency in the home, along with drowning out noise from the outside.
